Go Lakers

No, not that stupid basketball team that resides in a locale that has no lakes. I'm talking about the Minneapolis Southwest High School Lakers. Last night we took KyKy over to the school to get her registered for her freshman classes in the International Baccelaureate program. Hundreds of people were in the 1940's era gym, that because it's a 1940's era gym, felt like it was about 80 degrees. KyKy has her schedule filled out and there are two things I'm personally excited about for her. Since she's been in a Spanish Immersion school, she gets to start out in level 3 Spanish. She also signed up for orchestra, which is totally cool. She's been taking viola lessons for years now and is getting pretty good. I can't wait to see how being a part of a bigger group will expand her horizons. This whole program is pretty impressive. There are kids from 30 different middle schools in this freshman class. To add to our fun last night, the Taurus got a flat on the way to the school. Blasted cars. It's going to sit in the garage for a couple of days cuz I'm riding to work. In a nice gesture, no less than two fine citizens of Minneapolis flagged me down to warn me of the flat - one even ran out of her car at a stop light to give me a heads up.

In related school note, 'Nika's Ella Fizgerald history board was deemed good enough to be displayed prominently in the hallway by the school office. Better Ella than Eddie Murphy.
