Of Warts And Other Things

So we had yet another visit with Dr. Hendrick yesterday. He has been the kid's doc since KyKy was little. We've been lucky I guess. In the last 13 years I don't know how many times we've switched insurance because of jobs etc., but Dr. H. remains. We used to schedule appointments early in the morning becasue he is such a Chatty Cathy that he would be running 45 minutes late by the afternoon. Yesterday he came in, chatted a bit (of course) and then got down to the business of freezing those blasted warts. For some reason The Madster decided to stand up during the procedure, so by the end the pain was getting to her and she felt a little light-headed. That's o.k. just more time to talk with Dr. H until she feels better. We scheduled another appointment for two weeks from now to have the hunormous wart on her thumb treated again. Yeah the same one that was ripped off today playing kickball with the neighborhood kids tonight. I forgot to ask if she saved the thing after it got torn off. The Madster left her mark at the clinic yesterday, literally, by writing down some of her memorized lines of Macbeth on a little chalkboard in the exam room. Dr. H was duly impressed.

Tomorrow we go to St. Peter for the big nursing wing-ding. I honestly don't know when the last time we were all in the crapmobile together. It may have been for our fabulous haircuts. Sheesh we are a pathetic family. We don't do anything together.

I feel like I need to say a word about our youngest-you know what's her name, who didn't take an exciting trip to China or an exciting trip to the doctor to get warts removed. That's right! 'Nika. You know how toddlers will sometimes be holding on to something and suddenly just hand it to you? They just give it. Then they'll pick something else up and give it to you. Give. Give. Give. There is a residual form of this behavior that has hung on in our youngest. I swear she is the most generous child I have ever met. Ever. If she was starving and was given two M&Ms she would turn around and say to you, "Want one?" Again, she must get this from her mother, because as I have noted earlier in this blog, I am the most selfish person I know. The rest of the family, being as evil as we are, constantly take advantage of this generosity. "'Nika could you do this?" "'Nika could you get me that?" "Sure," is the invariable answer. I suppose we'll ruin her and she'll grow up to be a lesbian terrorist or something, hopefully a generous lesbian terrorist. But this trait is what make her so endearing and why we love her more than the other two. Kidding! Kidding! You all know we love the dogs the best.

Mon Dieu! What is it with the warts? The Madster should take comfort in knowing she isn't the only Stocking grandchild who has them.

No kidding.
Daniel has to get one frozen off and he's terrified. Maddie, maybe you could encourage him, tell him it didn't hurt THAT much, or maybe come hold his hand for the proceedure.
I'm not sure how we're going to get him in to get the wisdom teethe pulled.....

Mads had a little help getting the biggest wart to come off from her friend Charlie. While playing outside the other day, Charlie accidentally stepped on the 'frozen' wart, then turned, thereby grinding down on Mad's thumb. The wart actually fell off! There was much rejoicing and much blood. All the kids on the playground were duly impressed by mad's valor (and by the blood, of course...)

Terri, when is Dando's graduation?

That's the second time you've asked Terri that. I don't think he's graduating. Too many warts.

Sorry I didn't get back to you. I kept thinking Mom was letting everyone know, and then I thought we'd get the invites out, but that's not happening any too quickly. So, graduation is on June 10 at 1:00. You are NOT invited to that. Sorry. The open house shindig is the 9th, times yet tbd. It will be a brunch for the main event, but we figured we'd have a bbq later in the day for family. I'll let you know more by the 8th.

Friendly reminder to everyone: If you want good parking at Daniel's party, arrive early! Of course, if you arrive early, plan on staying late, as you might not be able to get out of the Holm's driveway.

What? Cambridge's own alumni can't attend this event? Even an alumma with a distinguished reputation such as mine?

Hey.
Valet parking on the 9th.
Serious.

Terri, are you going to find D and kick out those strangers from your basement for this shindig?

The Other (Younger) Half said...

Don't have Opa do the valet parking, K?...

I think we'll have the strangers do they valet parking and serving of champagne. I'm not sure how many are living down there right now, so I'm not sure about the shcmpagne part. You may have to pour your own.
